Destination of the Month: Verona

Verona, located in Veneto and capital city of the province Verona, is famous worldwide, not least due to Shakespeare. It is the economic center of Veneto and thanks to its Italian charm as well as its proximity to Lake Garda and Venice a very popular destination.
The Old Town of Verona – part of UNESCO World Heritage since 2000 – is characterized by a vast number of historic marks like antique Palazzi or the Amphitheatre and there are many possibilities to discover all of them, be it by foot, bike or for instance by Segway.

It was not until the time of Emperor Augustus that Verona became a huge city. There are many marks of the Roman Era that still exist today and after Rome, Verona counts for the second city with the best preserved Roman remains. One of the most impressive ones is surely the Amphitheatre. It was built in 30 after Christ – still 50 years prior to the construction of the Colosseum in Rome – and offers a breathtaking view onto the city, which already Goethe has been impressed by. Further interesting places in Verona are for example the Gavi Arch or the town gate Porta Borsari as well as Piazza delle Erbe, Ponte dei Leoni and of course the Juliet’s House (Casa Capuleti), with the most famous balcony in the history of literature. Moreover, Verona has a number of impressing churches like Santa Maria Antica, San Lorenzo or the dome Santa Maria Matricolare. Also for lovers of art the city offers lots of interesting places: Palazzo Forti or the museum of Castelvecchio are only two examples of many museums in the city. Also visiting for instance the archeological museum Museo Lapidario Maffeiano or the Museo Achreologico at Teatro Romano is worth all the same.

However, Verona is not only attractive for tourists: also due to all the exhibitions that take place in this region, Verona has become a well-attended destination. The most popular exhibitions are those concerning agriculture, furnishing and marble processing. Apart from this, there are also exhibitions like for example Artverona – an exhibition for modern and contemporary art, the MOTORBIKE exhibition, Vinitaly – an international exhibition for wine, or TRANSPOTEC, an international exhibition for transports and logistics.

Also for corporate or customer events Verona offers a wide range of attractive locations like private villas or antique Palazzi located right in the city center.

For those who search for an accommodation in Verona the city offers plenty of choices. Just to name a few Palazzo Victoria, Due Torri Hotel and Hotel Gabbia D’Oro are greatly recommendable. But no matter what kind of accommodation you are going to select: Verona will always be worth a visit!
